Histopathological Imaging

DIGITAL STAIN-FREE HISTOPATHOLOGICAL
IMAGING & ANALYSIS

Using the Genesis® Imaging System utilising the multiphoton technology, we provide a quantitative, fully-automated, stain-free, multi-organ, 2D & 3D multiphoton imaging for tissue diagnostics in various applications in preclinical and clinical research or speeding up pharmaceutical drug development.

Captured images are differentiated and treated with machine-learned algorithms to give a comprehensive, morphology-based quantification of fibrosis using second harmonic generation and two-photon microscopy.

THE SCIENCE

Laser-based, nonlinear and multi-photon imaging technology such as Two Photon Autofluorescence (TPAF) and Second Harmonic Generation (SHG) have proven their clinical value for tissue diagnosis, and have transited from laboratory to clinical applications.

Using near-infrared femtosecond lasers to excite optical processes, and non-linear multiphoton interactions with tissue samples, signals are generated through simultaneous absorption or scattering of two or more photons.

SHG signals are detected when a laser of femtosecond range interacts with tissues that have unique (non-centrosymmetric) structure within the extra-cellular matrix (ECM) such as collagen fibres and elastin.  When this SHG signal is combined with auto-fluorescence signal from the cells using TPAF, multiphoton imaging is able to penetrate deep into tissues to generate a high-resolution image which reflects both the architecture of the ECM and surrounding cellular structure.

BENEFITS
STAIN-FREE

Eliminate photobleaching and inconsistencies from staining while reducing sample preparation time. Also allows for other stains and techniques to be applied when unstained samples are returned

HIGH SENSITIVITY AND SPECIFICITY

High sensitivity and high specificity (detects fine collagen fibers up to 0.1μm usually undetected with traditional stains)

REPRODUCIBLE STAGING

Objective, high resolution images with reproducible results giving a massive reduction in inter- and intra- observers discrepancies when compared with conventional histology staining of the ECM

QUANTIFIABLE DATA

Bespoke algorithms with the analysis capability to quantify and characterise collagen fibres in fibrosis, and tumour-stroma ECM in cancer

3D SCANNING

Realistic and 3D visualisation of cellular and extraceullar matrix architecture - supported in sections up to a depth of 200 μm

MULTI-ORGAN USE

Able to extend to multiple connective tissues (eg liver, kidney, lung, breast, prostate, heart, skin) and oncology studies

APPLICATIONS

FIBROSIS GRADING

Animal/Pre-clinincal And Clinical Tissues For Various Organs

STUDY OF STROMA

Surrounding Solid Tumours In Cancers

PRE-TRANSPLANT
